Adult Playwriting Ever wanted to write a play?
Maybe you’ve already got the seed of an idea, a character, a cracking plot, or a first draft – wherever you’re at in the process, these eight sessions will help you create, craft, redraft and shape your vision.
Each week will look at a different element of playwriting, including plot, writing dialogue, creating compelling characters, conflict, and dramatic convention and elements. The course will culminate in a sharing of work in the SJT’s McCarthy auditorium, bringing your work to life on stage for the first time.
Expect lots of chat, writing and reading in these friendly, informal sessions led by writer Christina Lewis.
Most suitable for people in the earlier stages of their playwriting journeys.

Christina Lewis is a script and short story writer based in the North. She was Writer in Residence at HMP Hull and Whitby’s Pannett Park. Backstage Tour: Calendar Girls The Musical A tour of the SJT taking you behind the scenes and into the hidden nooks and crannies of our historic building. We'll take you backstage, to areas which aren't open to the public and tell you the story of how an Art Deco Odeon cinema became a theatre in-the-round with a slightly smaller cinema upstairs. You'll also get a behind the scenes peek at the play we're currently producing. Dates: Sat 11 Booking and More Information
Calendar Girls The Musical The death of a much-loved husband prompts a group of ordinary women in a small Yorkshire Women's Institute to do something extraordinary: create a nude calendar to raise money for charity.
News spreads fast in their community and none of them expect the emotional and personal repercussions, but gradually the making of the fabulous and funny calendar brings each woman unexpectedly into bloom.
The true story of the Calendar Girls launched a global phenomenon, a million copycat calendars, a record-breaking movie, a West End play and now an awarding-winning musical written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth.
Packed full of unforgettable songs, every performance continues to prove that there is no such thing as an ordinary woman.

Margaret Thatcher - her most powerful subject.
Two women meet once a week for eleven years.
One believes there is no such thing as society. The other has committed her life to serving it.
Moira Buffini's wickedly funny comedy imagines what happened behind closed palace doors when the world's most powerful women clashed.
Winner of a 2014 Olivier Award and West-End smash hit, Handbagged takes us from 1979 to 1990 and asks if the Queen and the Iron Lady ever found common ground, or did their stiff upper lips reign supreme?
